Ford shows off its green car fleet

If you haven't noticed, car companies are going green. Well, they have been for a while.

Ford has spent the past few years fully investing itself in the eco-movement, and their new fleet of cars embodies that shift. The company is known for its EcoBoost fuel system, and all 90% of all Ford cars and trucks will be fitted with this technology by 2013.

Ford is also known for its classic American trucks, the Shelby Cobra, and the fastback Mustang, but times are changing they way they build and sell cars.

"I think that people are looking for different alternatives, and fuel efficiency's become a reality," said Michael Lenz, a Ford product trainer who lives in White Rock, B.C. "All manufacturers are vying for alternatives in the marketplace."

This new lineup is comprised of the usual suspects you've come to know, but with slight tweaks and facelifts.

Ford ended April unveiling four of their best-sellers at West Vancouver Community Centre. That included the 2012 Focus Electric, the 2013 C-Max, the 2013 Escape, and the 2013 Flex.

Ford has also been showing off the 2013 Fusion, which looks more like an Aston Martin than your typical family sedan.

The company's fade to green is due to a few factors, but one is the appetite of customers who have seen gas prices increase over the past decade.

Lenz said the global recession that has taken place over the past five years has added to a change in attitude and a change in spending habits.

"When we saw the big downfall of the American economy and the automotive industry crashed along with it, everyone kind of woke up and said, 'We need to find more sustainable ways of providing product.'"
