Cypress Mtn. will open Tues, first resort in B.C.
Cypress Mountain will open to skiers Tuesday, the mountain's earliest opening day on record and the first ski resort in the province to welcome visitors for the season.
The mountain received 12 cm of new snow Monday adding to the 30 cm of artificial snow that crews on the mountain had made over the past week.
The mountain will have only its Eagle Express Quad chair open and only to intermediate and expert skiers and riders, Cypress staff said in a release Monday.
The chair will serve part of two runs — Upper Maelle Ricker's Run and mid Jasey Jay — covering about 24 football fields of terrain plus a small snowboard park.
The mountain expects more snow to fall later this week and snowmaking and grooming crews are currently working to open the Panorama and Windjammer runs next.
