North Van RCMP reopen brawling Santa file

North Vancouver RCMP have reopened a case involving two Santas brawling with another patron at the Rusty Gull pub two weeks ago.

Police were called to the Lower Lonsdale drinking establishment around midnight on Fri. Dec. 16 after receiving reports of the un-festive situation. It's alleged one of the two men dressed in Santa suits hit a male patron with such force that it knocked the man to the ground.

"He was the instigator," said Cpl. Richard De Jong, spokesman for the North Van RCMP. "He wanted to take the Santas on."

The victim was taken to hospital with what was believed at the time to be minor injuries. He was released within the hour but then readmitted later that day with an undetermined neurological injury, potentially brain swelling, according to De Jong.

After the altercation, both Santas fled the scene without a trace. Given the extent of the victim's injuries, police are now searching for the Santas.

Any witness to the incident are asked to contact the North Vancouver RCMP non-emergency line at 604-985-131, quote file number 2011- 36094 and ask for Const. Shane O'Neil.
