Homeless man found dead in North Van
A homeless man is dead but police aren't yet saying how after he was found under a blanket at the corner of Cotton Drive and Kennard Avenue in North Vancouver Thursday morning.
Police say they do not believe that the man was the victim of foul play, but their investigation is ongoing and an autopsy will be conducted to determine the cause of death.
The man was found lying unresponsive by a pedestrian who called the North Vancouver RCMP shortly before 10 a.m.
Mounties attended immediately and discovered a Caucasian man, approximately 60 years old lying in some bushes about seven metres from the busy Cotton Drive roadway. Police said it appeared the man had been sleeping there under a blanket and on top of an assortment of papers and cardboard.
The BC Coroners Service and RCMP Forensic Services attended the scene to help in the investigation.
Police have not yet confirmed the man's identity.
“This is a very sad ending to an individual’s life,” said Cpl. Richard De Jong, spokesman for the North Vancouver RCMP. “Our police and our community service partners continue to actively reach out to those found in need of assistance.”
Last month, a 53-year-old man died after a fire broke out in a shipping container police say he was living in.
