Chemical spill closes portions of Marine Drive in West Van
Portions of Marine Drive in West Vancouver are closed due to a chemical spill this afternoon.
At approximately 9 a.m., West Van police were notified by municipal staff that a commercial truck between 29th and 31st streets was leaking what appeared to be chemical foam, a product, according to a police press release, used for home insulation.
Along with WVPD officers, West Vancouver district staff, West Vancouver Fire Services the City of North Vancouver Fire Service's HAZMAT team or on scene assisting in the cleanup.
Traffic has been affected in these areas: Marine Drive is closed between the 3200 block and 29th Street as is 31st Street between Marine Drive and Thompson Crescent.
The Department of Fisheries and Oceans has also been notified. Police are recommending commuters find alternate routes to their destinations to avoid traffic in the area.
Police say there is no concern for public safety and there have been no evacuations to neighbouring homes or businesses.
