Police foil jewelry store heist at Park Royal
Eight men are in custody after a brazen jewelry store robbery attempt at Park Royal Shopping Centre on Thursday night was foiled by undercover police.
Members of the Burnaby RCMP Strike Force were apparently at the shopping centre surveilling the group of men when the attempted robbery occurred at around 8:30 p.m.
Three males were arrested inside Birks after police witnessed one of the men pointing a firearm at an employee.
In a release, Sgt. Ed Pearce of the West Vancouver Police Department said four other males were arrested in a getaway car and one more in a separate vehicle.
He said no shots were fired and nobody was injured.
Store employees involved in the incident were offered victim services counselling, police said.
