Windsor student struck by vehicle on first day of school
A 15-year-old Windsor secondary student is recovering from his injuries after being run down in a marked crosswalk on Mount Seymour Parkway at Broadview Drive on Tuesday afternoon.
The student was crossing the busy road at 2:30 p.m. when he was struck by a vehicle driven by a 79-year-old female from North Van.
"The lights [at the crosswalk] were activated," said North Vancouver RCMP spokesman Cpl. Richard De Jong. "The driver did receive a violation ticket for failing to yield to a pedestrian."
The injured teenager suffered some abrasions, cuts and whiplash in the accident, but is expected to make a full recovery, added De Jong.
He said it's a timely reminder for all motorists to pay attention at all crosswalks, and to be aware of cars slowing down and stopping.
"Our traffic unit along with our general duty officers and youth officers will have an extended presence in our school zones, monitoring any infractions that may occur," said De Jong.
