UPDATE: Young North Van woman in ICU after hit-and-run
A 21-year-old North Vancouver woman remains in an intensive care unit after a hit-and-run in the 1600-block of Grand Boulevard on Wednesday evening.
At approximately 8:20 p.m. a neighbour in the area who had heard the crash came upon the victim lying in a crosswalk. Emergency responders were called to the scene and the victim was taken to Lions Gate Hospital with serious injuries.
Shortly after the accident, a few blocks away, a retired police officer out walking his dog noticed a vehicle with a smashed windshield, said North Vancouver RCMP spokesperson Cpl. Richard De Jong. He took down the licence plate number and immediately called the police.
Subsequently, police arrested the suspected driver, a 24-year-old female, at her North Vancouver residence. She remains in custody and faces various charges.
De Jong said the victim is still in serious condition in an intensive care unit with injuries that include head trauma and a punctured lung.
The RCMP are continuing their investigation into the accident and asking for any witnesses to contact police at 604-985-1311.
