Lower Lynn mosque evacuated after bomb threat
North Vancouver RCMP are continuing their investigation following a bomb threat Monday evening that targeted the Al-Ghadir Masjid mosque in the 300-block of Lynn Avenue.
North Van RCMP spokesperson Cpl. Richard De Jong, in a press release, said the RCMP received a call from an unknown male at 6 p.m. advising a bomb was set to go off at the mosque at an unspecified time.
"Police, taking the threat seriously, evacuated the approximately 15 people in the hall and secured the area," said De Jong.
The mosque was searched by officers and a police dog unit that specializes in explosives. No bomb was located.
The RCMP are continuing their investigation by speaking to mosque officials in attempts to identify the caller and any motive for the threat. De Jong said mosque officials have also been advised to have a safety plan in place for tonight's New Year's Eve event.
This isn't the first time this Lynn Avenue mosque has been targeted by a bomb threat. In 2010, a man allegedly left a threatening voice mail message at the mosque, according to RCMP.
Anyone with information on this latest incident is asked to call the North Van RCMP at 604-985-1311.
