West Van police honour North Shore Rescue for saving stranded snowboarder
The West Vancouver Police Board is giving North Shore Rescue an award for rescuing a snowboarder who was lost on Cypress Mountain in December 2012.
After snowboarding out of bounds, Sebastian Boucher, 33, was lost for two days before North Shore Rescue could reach him. He later raised $10,000 through fundraising and gave it to the search team.
The Certificate of Merit award will be presented on Jan. 23 at 4:30 p.m. at the West Van Police Department, 1330 Marine Dr.
The District of North Vancouver will also be honouring NSR for its "incredible ongoing commitment to the safety of North Shore residents and visitors."
The search team is the first recipient of the Council's Award — the highest award the district can bestow — and only one of 11 recipients to receive an award of this level in the 122-year history of the district.
The award will be presented this spring.
