Vanoc cancels standing room tickets for snowboard cross events
When North Vancouver's Drew Neilson races down Cypress during today's men's snowboard cross there will be fewer flag-waving hometown fans cheering him on.
Yesterday, Vanoc announced the cancellation of general admission standing room tickets for men's and ladies' snowboard cross events because heavy rain has made the spectators' area "unsafe."
That means 4,000 fewer fans at each event, Vanoc says.
"With safety the top priority and with the snowboard cross events starting in less than 24 hours, there is insufficient snow to move and build the standing room area back up at the Cypress snowboard stadium. VANOC has protected sufficient contingency snow for field of play at Cypress Mountain," stated a Vanoc release.
All tickets will be refunded. Vanoc reminds ticket holders:
The snowboard cross events affected at Cypress Mountain include:
Monday, February 15, 2010
- Men's snowboard cross (SB001): 10:30 am and 2:00 pm (PST)
- Price category B only
Tuesday, February 16, 2010
- Ladies' snowboard cross (SB002): 10:00 am and 12:15 pm (PST)
- Price category B only
Spectators who are not impacted by this cancellation and refund are:
- Spectators who have tickets for seating in the grandstand (priced at $125) on Monday, February 15 and Tuesday, February 16 at men's and ladies' snowboard cross.
- Spectators who have general admission standing room tickets for
freestyle skiing aerials competitions later in the Games. This sport
discipline is held in a separate stadium at Cypress Mountain.
- Those holding sport event tickets for all Whistler venues
